The women's basketball team claimed the Region 3 Championship Title on Sunday with a 73-61 victory over Onondaga, punching their ticket to the NJCAA DIII Championship in Brownwood, Texas on March 11th – 14th.
The Lady Raiders set the tone early, building a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and holding Onondaga to just 28.2% shooting from the field for the game. Despite a tight second and third quarter, the Lady Raiders erupted for 26 points in the fourth to pull away and secure the title.
Hailey Monroe and Kieonna Christmas led the way with dominant performances. Monroe poured in 24 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting, adding four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Christmas matched her with 24 points while delivering a monster performance on the glass, grabbing 21 rebounds to go along with six assists and four blocks in a complete two-way effort.
Shiasia Williams added eight points, eight rebounds, and three blocks, anchoring the defense in the paint. Cloey Dopp and Sha Cooper each contributed five points, while Mattingly Hindes chipped in five points off the bench.
With the Region 3 title secured, FMCC now turns its attention to the national stage. The Lady Raiders will travel to Brownwood, Texas, looking to carry their championship momentum into the NJCAA Division III National Tournament and compete for a national title.
