The Fulton-Montgomery Community College men's basketball team has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming 2025-26 season, and early signs point to a group that is ready to compete at a high level.
"Practices have been going well, said Head Coach Ed Collar. The attitudes and work ethic have been great, which has really helped accelerate our learning curve."
That dedication has shown both on and off the court. The Raiders have been putting in long hours, not only in team practices but also in the video room, the weight room, and through pre-season scrimmages.
The Raiders will rely heavely on sophomore leadership from returners, Johnardo Turner, Mckenzey Johnson and Léopold Fonjallaz.
FMCC welcomes several new faces this season, including two key transfers from Mohawk Valley Community College, guard James Collar and forward Von Smith. Both bring valuable experience, talent, and a winning attitude to the Raiders lineup. Freshman Craig Guest, Jr., a sharp-shooting guard from Connecticut, is also expected to make an immediate impact.
The roster features a strong mix of international, out-of-state, and local talent. Local standouts Andre Jackson, Jordan Knight, and Jeravontae Russell will play important roles in helping to anchor the team's chemistry and intensity.
Throughout the preseason, the Raiders have focused on improving their shooting, committing to defense, and fine-tuning execution on both ends of the floor.
"Our strengths will be our half-court defense and our ability to shoot. We should be very competitive in an extremely talented region. Our success will come down to doing the little things, execution, effort, and attention to detail." said Collar.
The Raiders will open the season on Saturday, November 1st when they host Jefferson Community College in the Raiders Den. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
