Baseball Prospects Show Their Skills

JOHNSTOWN – The Raiders ballyard was a beehive of activity over the weekend. The inaugural Empire State Prospect Games were played at FM and at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam.

The Prospect Games were organized by Brian Spagnola, President and GM of the Amsterdam Mohawks summer collegiate baseball team. The 200-plus participants came from all over New York State.

The ballplayers were high school baseball players with a serious interest in playing college baseball. The event included baseball games and skills showcases. Dozens of college coaches were on hand to see the prospective college players in action.

Overall, the weather was fine and the event proved to be a successful showcase for talented high school ballplayers.

FM Director of Athletics Kevin Jones stated, “The baseball showcase was fantastic.  There was great representation from throughout the state. Many college coaches attended to watch some quality baseball. The weather held up nicely, and the event was a success that we were happy to be a part of. Hopefully this will become a yearly event at FM.”
